The true neuralgic center of your application, the Explorer provides access to all parts of your application in the bat of an eye.
Using this tool, you have a global vision of your database and quick way to access its elements.
As such, you can quickly browse the different components of your database, such as tables, forms, methods, list of commands, constants, plug-ins, available components, etc.
The buttons
and
allow creating or delete tables, forms, or methods.
The trash bin keeps the list of deleted items. You can restore these elements in case of accidental deletion, which adds an extra layer of security. There is room for error!
A window pane allows displaying the preview or comments of the selected object.
In preview mode, you can select or copy the code of a method directly without having to open a window of the method editor.
You can drag-and-drop objects from the Explorer to most editors in 4D.
A few feature available in the Explorer displays the list of objects in your database (methods or menus) referencing the selected project method.
Now, and directly* from 4D, simply change the name of the method (by prefixing or renaming it) so that 4D automatically applies this change to all objects in your database that call this method.
Time saving guaranteed! Put an end once and for all to the risk of errors when manually renaming!

The Home page and its contextual menu give you the option of gathering database objects (tables, methods, and forms) by functionality within “folders.” For example, you can group all objects used for billing within the same folder. This greatly facilitates maintenance.
You can also reuse this feature in another database using copy/paste or drag-and-dropping the folder.
