Welcome to the 4D Dynamic Web Page Tutorial! The goal of this tutorial
is to help you learn to create dynamic web pages and sites using 4th Dimension.
This tutorial assumes you have:
We assume that you know a little something about HTML - Hypertext Markup Language. It is the "common (sp) tongue" for web pages; it tells a web browser how to draw your page. It is also helpful to know at least a little bit about TCP/IP - the "common tongue" for the Internet as a whole.
The first step in this tutorial is to launch 4th Dimension. You will be presented with a dialog box, prompting you to either open an existing structure file, or by changing tabs you can create a new one. For this exercise, you will want to create a new one. You should check "Create Database Folder" but you should not install the 4D Web Assistant.

You should name this new structure "HelloWorld." Once you have chosen to save your new structure file, you will be taken to 4D's design environment. You will be presented with a window that looks like this. Your window will likely be larger than this one, but it will look very much the same.

What you are looking at is the Database Structure for your application. 4D has a built-in relational database, which we are not going to be using for this tutorial. When you are viewing the Structure, you are in 4D's Design Environment. 4D has three environments: Design, User, and Custom Menus.
